A Number Of Basic Film Summaries

For years now, the video store was the way to get movies. The next generation it seems will be getting their movies from movie downloads, avoiding any trips to the store. Just about any movie every made can be attained through a movie download site now. Check out these samples.

The Foxes of Harrow: Lavish however lumbering story of philanderer splitting up his matrimony to seek wealth and popularity in New Orleans in 1820. Cast includes Rex Harrison, Maureen O’Hara, Richard Haydn, Champ McLaglen, Vanessa Brown, Patricia Medina, and Gene Lockhart. (117 minutes, 1947)

Dracula: Gloomy retelling of Bram Stoker classic, with Langella’s esteemed Broadway characterization lost among hip terror gimmicks and ill-imagined changes in primordial tale. The movie was filmed in England. Cast includes Blunt Langella, Laurence Olivier, Donald Pleasence, Kate Nelligan, Trevor Eve, lanine Duvitski, and Tony Haygarth. (109 minutes, 1958)

Dimples: Prime Shirley, with our heroine doing her best to spare her indigent dad, played by amazing Morgan. Melodies: “Oh Mister Gentleman Up in the Moon,” “What Did the Bluebird Affirm.” Cast includes Shirley Church, Blunt Morgan, Helen Westley, Robert Kent, Stepin Fetchit, and Astrid Allwyn. (78 minutes, 1936)

Amistad: This film is based on the true story of an unsuccessful mutiny aboard a slave ship in 1839 bound for the US. The subsequent trial would put the entire foundation of the US legal system on trial. Three great men, abolitionist Theodore Joadson, lawyer Roger Baldwin, and former president John Quincy Adams fight for the freedom, and civil rights, of the African slaves.

New Jack City: Nino Brown and CMB have taken over the drug scene in New York in the late 1980′s. They take over an entire apartment complex to run their operation. With internal struggles brewing Nino trusts no one. City cops eventually get someone on the inside, and they finally take Nino Brown down.

Airplane 2: Somewhat ludicrous rehash of Airplane (by a new author-director), however it couldn’t match the amount, or premium, of chuckles in the first film. Numerous cameos appearances include Raymond Burr, Chuck Connors, and Sonny Bono. Cast includes Robert Hays, Julie Hagerty, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, William Shatner, Chad Everett, and David Paymer. (85 minutes, 1982)

For Richer or Poorer: Very wealthy New Yorkers Allen and Alley, whose matrimony is on the stones, are made to take it on the lam while they’re implicated of tax fraud and hide out on an Amish farm, where they make believe to be blood brothers of farmer Sanders. Ruined and lethargic, they’re made to do tough, truthful work, and essentially materialize to like it. Cast includes Tim Allen, Kirstie Alley, Jay O. Sanders, Michael Lerner, Carrie Preston, and Katie Moore. (115 minutes, 1997)

Dealer Horn: Cast includes Pole Taylor, Anne Heywood, Jean Sorel, Don Horseman, Ed Bernard, and Pile Perforate. Comical redo of 1931 rendition has Taylor famed explorer and dealer of African interior, adjoined by youthful widow. Apparent use of stock footage and the truth that cast on no account leaves back-lot spoil all idea of believability. PG (105 minutes, 1973)

The Priests Wife: Hardly amusing blend of tirade and humor with Loren as disenchanted singer who imagines she could persuade pastor Mastroianni to acquire discharge from his promise of celibacy and wed her. Weightier addressing of topic might be heard on stereo chat shows; film appears laid out barely as car for 2 megastars. Cast includes Sophia Loren, Marcello Mastroianni, Venantino Venantini, Jacques Stany, Pippo Starnazza, and Augusto Mastrantoni. (106 minutes, 1971)
