The film opens on a diner in Springwood. It isn’t long until you get your first look at Freddy Krueger and what he can do in this film. You also get your first stint of paranoia as Dean, the man encountering Freddy at that time has a chance to explain everything to his girlfriend, Kris. He tells her that someone in his dreams is trying to kill him and she watches him die right before her eyes.
Now, no one knows what is going on, but it doesn’t take them long to figure out that no one is alone in their fear. They all determine that they are sharing the same dream. A man who is equipped with a four bladed hand and a burned up face is chasing them through their dreams. Most of them have come to terms that if they can’t figure something out, then they are going to be dead like Dean.
Now the body count is rising and more and more about Krueger is coming to light. While their dreams were terrifying, they managed to give each of them pieces of the puzzle towards stopping Freddy. Nancy learns that she can pull things out of her dreams, and this spawns a showdown with the madman back where her nightmare began as a small child.
There are several scenes that people can remember from the first film in this one, including the body bag talking from down the school hall, the screaming in the middle of the classroom, and many more. This series needed a new face to give Krueger a newly terrifying persona. This man was none other than Jackie Earle Haley, of “Watchmen” and other film fame.
