The world’s debut of an organized fashion week, was held in New York City, in 1943. Twice a year, in February and September designers swarm to New York to showcase their creations. Their latest showing consisted of Adam Lippes and his conception of fur lined military jackets, corresponding with slouching ankle boots. Fun, flirty skirts and dresses which flowed over the thigh, was unveiled by Zac Posen. Once again, Lela Rose produced the most realistic and wearable designs of the show.

London fashion week is another component of the major four. The show is held twice a year, in February and September, and made its debut in 1984. This year Vivienne Westwood’s catwalk was one again filled with an explosive political message, sending the first model prancing down in Guantanamo-orange hipsters, adorned with a sign stating “Fair Trial My Arse”. Christopher Kane, a relative novel designer showed with his fourth London fashion week collection. Graduating only in 2005 from Central St. Martins, he is already considered to be London’s ‘Wonder boy’. His newest collection held true to when he self-confessed to being a romantic at heart, which was feminine and floating in the air.

Another fashion week to be considered one of the top four, is the Paris fashion week. They have semi-annual shows in the spring and summer, as well as the fall and winter seasons. During the recent show, Dries Van Noten showed that he was influenced by the military, with bandleader coats, trench coats, hand-embroidered braiding in gold, raised collars on military shirts, and a full leg cut in trousers, which resemble a past era military. Louis Voitton’s designs were focused on cut and structure, with belted cardigans, puffer vests, double breasted jackets with square shoulders, and even a feather filled jacket to hug the body.

Established in 1958, Milan fashion week is owned by Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, which is a non-profit organization. This past show was the debut of The Brothers Caten, with their collection of the girly eyelet trimmed dress, harmonizing with the masculine tuxedo designed dress. The 70′s was the inspiration for Anna Molinari, just as it was for other designers. Her collection consisted of animal prints, permeated with girly shades of pinks, ice blues, and peaches.
