The question on how to make duvet covers can be answered in a variety of ways. My focus will be on just one specific one. Let me say this before you get all worked up – Making a duvet cover is not hard but you do need to follow all the steps that are discussed below. With this you don’t have to go aroud looking for discount duvet covers or branded ones line pottery barn floral embroidered duvet covers- queen

First thing first, you need to select the fabric you intend to use. You will also have to take some measurements i.e. the width and the length using a tape measure. You need to know the size of the bed you will be using it on. For instance, is it a queen, king, twin or single bed?

Now here is what I suggest you do. Make sure that you pick a washable fabric that could also double as a home decorator. I suggest you go for a lightweight fabric that will feel comfortable. While you are making those choices do not forget to think about the climatic conditions of your area.

Start by choosing two lengths of fabric spanning about 54 inches. You can even make it a bit wider. This will be used on the front of the duvet cover. Be sure that the panels are the same size as the measurements of the length as mentioned earlier.

-Find home decorator fabrics. These should be about 54 inches wide that is able to cover a duvet cover to 104 inches wide. If you duvet is wider then make them wider as well. if you do have a wider duvet you can just purchase another panel of material.

-Now you must think about patterns and prints that you like. You may need to do some variations based on the prints to use. for instance, you may have to elongate your panels.

-The next step is to pre-wash and then iron the material.

-Now simply fold the front panel in half lengthwise.

-In order to make sure the creases are sharp at the folds iron the fabric first. Once you’ve done the ironing you may then unfold the fabric.

-you will have to do this to the panels at the back too.

-Now you need to draw a line that goes down the length of the crease on the panel. You will need a fabric marking pen and a yard stick for this task.

-Cut out each line to make six panels. That is, three shall be used on the back side and 3 for the front of the duvet cover.

-Now the next step on your project of making a duvet cover is to just take one panel and pin it, make sure it is that one that is narrow to one part of the visible side or front rather that is uncut. pin it down so that all the edges of the material are tightly knit together and make sure that the sides are also lined up quite as well.

What I have just said will take you miles ahead in your duvet cover making. Yes there might be a few more steps to go but then it is all up to you how you want to wrap it all up and make one that will suite just your taste and style.
