How to Organize Your Craft Room

You probably already know that a cluttered craft room isn’t the best for productivity, but it’s hard to know where to start in a sea of paintbrushes, yarn, and glue. There are some easy steps to prevent your supplies from becoming tangled and mixed with each other that may be easier to keep up with than you think!

You’ll want to start off by going through your items to decide what you need and don’t need. Then, make piles of like items together so you have everything in one place. Drawing and painting supplies are easy to organize by keeping them somewhere you can easily access them and sort them based on function or purpose. Likewise, think about putting all of your string, yarn, or other sewing materials in a container with compartments to reduce the risk of them tangling themselves together. You may also want to consider inexpensive wrapping paper storage containers for scrap book materials such as paper or stickers.

If you have access to a few carpentry tools, another idea to consider is making your own craft center out of an old piece of furniture you may already have in your home! You may be able to repurpose an old desk and use the drawers for holding paper or other art supplies. You may also want to consider having a table with drawers that can give you not only a nice area for assembling your projects but also doubles as storage space. If you need additional space, consider purchasing a portable closet unit.

How will you make sure you stay organized? Be sure to mark each and every container with the name of the corresponding item so you keep everything where it should be. Most of us have been in the situation where we run to the store to get supplies we think we need, only to find we had some all along, we just didn’t know where it was! When you label the drawers you’ll never have to worry about hunting for the materials you need or spending money on craft supplies you already have.

Getting organized has many perks: all of us like saving time, money, and being more creative! Simply keep it organized, labeled and all together to ensure that your time and money is spent on necessary supplies and making crafts, what we all want to do!
