Origination Of Abstract Art.
Abstractionism (Latin abstractio – removal, diversion) – is a pointless, non-figurative art – a form of expressive activity that does not have the goal of imitation or display of visually perceived reality. Abstract painting, drawing, sculpture exclude association with recognizable objects.
The origins of abstract painting and the time of the first abstract paintings are not defined. We can say with confidence only that between 1910 and 1915 many European artists have tried themselves in pointless, non-figurative compositions. The most original and famous – are V. Kandinsky, P. Mondrian, Kazimir Malevich. “Originator” of abstraction is usually called Kandinsky, keeping in mind his watercolors 1910-1912 and his theoretical works, which evidence objectively about self-sufficiency of art, indicate its ability by its own means to create some new reality. And in practice and in theory Kandinsky was the most resolute and consistent of those who at this time went to the line separating the figuration from abstraction. Unascertained question about who was first to cross this line, does not matter, because in the first years of XX century the latest trends of European art were very close to this boundary, all pointed to the fact that it would be overturned.
Abstraction in despite of the prevailing representation is not a stylistic category. This particular form of visual art is divided into several areas: geometric abstraction, lyrical abstraction, gestural abstraction, analytical abstraction and more private flows, such as suprematism, aranformel, nyuazhizm etc.
Styles of abstract art are derived from the same trailblazing elements like figurative styles. In particular, the fact is that the monochrome painting – is a canvas, painted over one tone – is in the same neutral attitude towards the style as totally naturalistic figurative image. Abstract painting – this is a special kind of visual activity, which function is compared with the functions of music in audio space.
Accelerating change in aesthetic views in art dates back to the revolutionary transformations in culture, science and technology of XX century. In art the new trends were already noticeable in the first half of XIX century. At this time in European painting it can be seen simultaneously improving of the naturalistic techniques (J. Ingres, Jean-L.David, T. porter) and the growing tendency to convention (Corot, Delacroix, F. Goya), the latter was especially sharpened in English painting – at R.O. Bonington and especially William Turner, whose paintings “The Sun rising in the mist … (1806)”, “Musical Evening (1829-1839)” and some other works are the most daring generalizations bordering with abstraction. Let’s pay our attention to the shape, but also to the story of one of his last works – Rain, steam and speed, which depicts a locomotive hurtling through the fog and the rain. This picture, painted in 1848 – is the highest measure of conventionality in the art of the first half of the XIX century.
