Singers Vocal Health
As you learn to sing, there are a few things that can happen, and you need to be ready for them A sore throat will interrupt your performance, and you need to know what to do when that happens. Use this advice for when your throat feels scratchy.
Most nasal sprays will be a problem
Nasal sprays that contain antihistimines or decongestants are habit forming and can cause symptoms to worsen when you stop. If you must use these sprays, then only use them in emergencies.
Drink Water
Most of the over-the-counter medications cause you to dry out. You shouldn’t have much of a problem with this so long as you make sure to hydrate yourself.
Nasal Saline Spray
Your body will try to expel germs through a runny nose, and that’s a great reason to keep nasal saline spray on hand. Using the spray when you’re sick means you need to be careful not to get all your germs on the nozzle of the bottle and then put the lid on only to have the germs welcome you back the next time you use the spray. You don’t want the bottle to get the cold germs, so make sure you keep it slightly away from your nose when you spray.
A Humidifier will help greatly
A humidifier will help to keep moisture in the air during the winter when you have your heater on. Make sure you rinse it out daily to avoid growing a mold farm in the left over water. The water condensation on the windows will dry, but feel free to turn off the humidifier if it looks like it’s raining on the inside of the house.
Thinning your Mucus
You may be suffering from postnasal drip, and this will cause your mucus to thicken. Us a nasal saline solution or other medications from your doctor to help dry up the drip without drying out your throat.
If you use throat lozenges, use the non sweetened variety
Use throat lozenges to help with those coughs from a dry throat. Most lozenges are just comforting candy on the same aisle with cold medicines. If you can find lozenges without sugar then you will be much better off because you won’t have as many dental problems. Try to avoid lozenges that contain menthol because they can lead to a dry throat.
