Six Steps To Stitching On A Substitute Button

Nearly everyone at some time is going to have to stitch a button onto some clothing. This article will give you a basic foundation to the basic principles of stitching a button. Before you do anything you want to get a button to substitute the missing one. Make sure to do a thorough search of your clothing before you buy anything new, as the replacement buttons are often sealed in inside or outside pockets, in the lining, or near or behind any tags. Check out this page for information on getting all kinds of buttons.

Next you have to get some cotton that’s the same color that was used for stitching the remaining buttons. Don’t worry too much if you can’t find the exact color, just try to get something in a similar tint so that the difference won’t be too noticeable. Now take the piece of thread and stretch it out to around as long as the distance from your hand to your elbow. Then snip it off and put it through the eye of a needle. Remember to check that the needle isn’t too wide to pass through the button holes too.

Now move the needle in the center of the cotton and create a double knot in one end of the thread so that it will not pass through the material, and you’re ready to get stitching. Begin by setting the button on the clothes where you want to sew it on. It will be better if you place a little piece of card or something like that to make a bit of space between the button and the fabric.

Now, beginning from the under side of the clothing, use enough force to press the needle up through the clothes and through one of the button holes, and continue until all the thread is through. Now just do the same action but from the top side – push the needle down through a different button hole and continue until the end of the cotton. Do this three times for each button hole. Then, you just tie a knot in the end of the cotton, cut off the thread and voila, your button is set!
